Question I have pre-ordered but what happens with the final product?

G'day

I just got my parents to pre-order GW as they are in america at the moment(im AU). Newho my concern is that I don't think they will be there when the final game is released at the end of the month. Now my question is, do you need anything from the final game to play online? I know you get some sort of activation code to play in the beta weekend but is this also your cd key for the game? I just don't want to have pre-ordered and then if they come back wait another 2 or so extra weeks while the mail is fowarded to australia = /

cheers

You will need the key-code off the box from the retail version. See if you can get one of your mom or dad's friends in the US to pick up the copy for you and then they can just call you and give it to you over the phone or email it to you.

I'm sorry, But the Key to play when the game is released only comes with the full version of the game.

The Beta "key" will only be good for a few days after the full release. You will be able to play the complete game for a while, but after that you'll need a full version "key". Your parent's may be able to e-mail you the "key" and it may work. Right now the client does not need the disk in the drive to run. I don't know if this will be true for the full version. But hopefully this may work. Until the game is released I don't know if any one really has an answer but some of the alpha testers may. Good luck and good gaming

Why can't they just give you your final cd-key with pre-order.

Because then why would you pay for the rest of the game? The pre-order only costs $5.

That probably means u just got how should i put this... "jacked" pre-ordered copies should only cost 5$ 10$ at most. I've never herd of warpick or whatever place you said you ordered it from but one of two things could have happened

1. What i mentioned before (you got jacked out of 50$)

or

2. You paid for a copy of the game when it comes into stores on the 28th. In whichcase your parents won't be bringing you home a game, you'll have to get someone to pick it up for you and mail it to you or whatever. You probably should have just waited and bought it off amazon.com or ebay.ca or .com or somewhere that you know will ship to the land down under

One likely reason is that the beta isn't the final client, there are files on the CD you need in the final release. You don't just need a code, you need to set up your account...

I have some new information about Preorder Items: As it turns out, a player account can have more than one preorder item on his or her account. Here is how it will work: You will have an Account Information Page for your Guild Wars account. On that page, you'll be able to do a lot of things, including inputting the retail key when you put up your copy of the game on April 28th. In addition, you could upgrade from the standard edition to the Collector's Edition, if you find that you can't live without the game soundtrack, the headphones, the Art of Guild Wars book and the Divine Aura. But most interestingly, you can also input an additional preorder key or keys, if you should so desire.

Now, I'm not saying "Go forth and buy one of every preorder on the planet," but I have been asked about the preorder items several times -- some folks have just had a lot of trouble deciding which preorder to get -- and this now is your definitive answer. Incidentally, the Account Info Page will be useful in the future, as we add the newer chapters of Guild Wars, and possibly as we have other opportunities where keys will be useful.

Hope this is good news to those of you who wondered about the subject!
Here is the link also, I just got this tonite asking for help with a cd key issue...

ahhhh crap! this is blowing up in my face

by the way as for the post about paying 50 dollars for the pre-order and what a warpick is, i think you should go back and have a look at the pre-order section on the guild wars site

I'm sure that you won't need the cd, just the key. The registration page will be downloaded to the client like everything else has for the BWEs. Sure you won't have to dl everything if you install from the cd, but it's not neccisary.

Right. You only need the key from the CD. The CD was sent to manufacturing a long time ago so the client you downloaded for the Beta weekends is likely more up to date.

all you need to play on after the 28th is the retail key

if your parents have the box in their possession just have them email the key to you and use it

as Gaile said at 11:59 of the 28th you will need to input the retail key to continue playing
